The First Civilization Myth

It is said that an ancient race, called the First Civilization, once inhabited this world, appearing as gods to the humans they created and guided. These beings, human in figure, advanced in knowledge, terrible in power, created fantastic cities, the like of which have never been seen again on this planet. Their time, one of terrible war, was a period of chaos; a dystopia.
The First Civilization (also known as the Precursors) used the humans as domestic laborers. Eventually, ignorant and fearful, the humans rebelled. The Precursors had terrible power in the form of the pieces of Eden, fantastical artifacts that could control the minds of the weak and foolhardy and create hallucinations. But the humans were many. And so the war raged, each side so absorbed in their trivialities that they did not notice the imminent danger looming over them until it was too late.
The danger came from outside their world. From the Sun. The First Civilization recognized it, worked to stop it and failed. The solar flare destroyed them and their legacy, as well as most of the humans. Most.
The disaster is known to a select few as the “Toba Catastrophe.” It destroyed any indication of the ones who came before and left the humans that survived with nothing.
Well, almost nothing. For, though they have gone from the earth, the First Civilization survives to this day. Their artifacts, the pieces of Eden, are scattered throughout this world. Even now, those with true knowledge search for them. But even more important, the project the Precursors worked on to save their dying planet has endured. It is hidden. It is waiting. For, one day soon, this planet will face the same terrible wrath of its Sun, unless something is done to stop it. The Precursors have been guiding us, directing us throughout history. The time has come.
Will we turn away from pettiness and band together? Or will we, too, make the same foolish mistake as the Precursors and be wiped from history?
